This beautiful castle was built around 1450. During the 15th century, it was named “Roulerie” after the Knight “Raul,”who chose to establish his residency there.  The castle was later renamed “la Roulerie,”  which is the current name.  The Comte de Provence, brother of the King of France – Louis the XVI, and also Duke of the Anjou Region, decided to canalize the River Layon in the 18th century.  The project helped the wine traders from the Flemish region (Belgium and Holland), which made famous the great wines of Layon throughout the world.
